Police Narrowing Down Search Area In Connection With Baby Found Dead In Stamford

A week after a full-term baby was found dead at a Stamford recycling center, police are actively working the case and have reached out to neighboring states for assistance.

The baby boy was discovered on Oct. 16, at the City Carting garbage transfer station at Taylor Reed Place by an employee who was sorting materials. 

At this point in the investigation, the child can only be described as a white or Hispanic male. No determination has been made as to whether the child was stillborn or died after birth, Stamford Police Lt. Tom Scanlon said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is completing the forensic analysis related to the case and an autopsy with preliminary findings was completed and numerous forensic tests are still in progress, said Stamford Lt. Tom Scanlon.

Investigators have ruled out the possibility that the child came from the material that originated in Nassau County, or Andover, Massachusetts.

Instead, they are now focusing their efforts on the material that was delivered by a company that services Westchester County, as well as in Northern Fairfield County, in Danbury and Ridgefield, and from local material delivered from lower Fairfield County, to include Stamford, Westport, and Norwalk, he said.

The majority of the material that was processed on the morning of Oct. 16, is known to have come from commercial properties/dumpsters.
